This kind of behavior can only exist when it is unopposed…

Gays are actively attacking the Mormon, Catholic and Evangelical churches in ads, invading church services and shouting obscenities in front of congregants and parishioners, Mocking Holy Communion in catholic churches dressed as transvestite nuns, assaulting old ladies on sidewalks for carrying a cross and snatching Bibles out of elderly person’s hands and beating them with them…shades of Kristallnacht and the attacks on Jewish businesses in pre WWII Germany

Creating Blacklists and having people fired, ostracized, and blackballed for opposing them,
Shades of McCarthy and the Red Scare.

They are censoring speech through thug tactics and intimidation while using the courts to have any criticism of them as hate speech.
Shades of the Soviet Union and Communist China!

Yet the Republican Party sits back on this as they have with so many other issues and allows it to continue unchallenged and criticized in any way!

I don’t know who’s worse…those doing this or those in the Rewpublicrat Party that are letting it happen!

It’s bad enough when private extremists hound people out of jobs for their political views, but at least you can argue that private individuals have a right to express their views. I still think that there’s a difference between expression and intimidation/bullying, but we’re talking private actors

However, when Congresspeople start demanding that people be fired for their views (or in this case for their wife’s behavior), then we’ve crossed the line into censorship (since we’re not talking government actors) and McCarthyism.

Even worse, especially since unlike McCarthy, these individually aren’t being accused of violating any law, it’s strictly an attempt to silent political speech (and punish association) you don’t agree with. Once the government is able to abrogate enumerated constitutional rights, where do it end.

And slippery slope, if this bullying succeeds here, where will it stop?

Unlike here, at least HUAC started out investigating possible criminal activities and a genuine threat to our country from card-carrying Communists in government positions.

Unfortunately, from the reports I’ve read, mission drift set in and the committee’s investigations went beyond criminal activity to investigating protected behavior, and its tactics degenerated into relying on informers and heasay and guilt-by-association. Television killed it.

Today’s Prop 8 witch-hunters know that and are likely to do their dirty work out of the public light except for a few high-profile examples to intimidate others and cut-off the money.

This will be a pattern we’re going to see from the left in the next few years – cut-off the money flow to the right.
