Yes, I know about Goodwin’s law, but comparing gay rights activists to the Nazis is fitting. They’ve gone from being persecuted to persecuting. Of course, they’ll say it is all in the fight for their civil rights — much like the Nazis needed to go after people to make things right.
Wireless providers and Capitol Hill Democrats are calling for CTIA President Steve Largent’s ouster over his alleged support of California’s recent gay marriage ballot initiative.“I’m not sure that this kind of political activity is helpful in Washington, D.C., right now,” a telecommunications executive from a CTIA member company told Roll Call on Thursday. “I don’t think it represents the high-tech workers of the wireless industry.”
Mind you, Steve Largent did not contribute to the Prop. 8 measure. His wife did.
But Largent must be punished. You must not oppose gay marriage. They will come for you. They will come for your family. They will work to oust you from your job.
This reminds me of something from this month’s Wired. Someone wrote in asking a question: their office has a network where everyone shares iTunes. Some Christian has sermons that are “anti-gay” in her iTunes. The guy wanted to know if he should complain and have the co-worker fired for intolerance.
In this country, we’ve gone from a Red Scare to a red, white, and blue scare. People with traditional American values are to be hunted down, fired from their jobs, and destroyed.

Frustrating
panthera (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:03AM EDT (link)This really makes me angry:
“Wireless providers and Capitol Hill Democrats are calling for CTIA President Steve Largent’s ouster over his alleged support of California’s recent gay marriage ballot initiative.”
Is anyone standing up to this? I never hear about people fighting back. How does one show there anger over this? Write these retards a letter? Im really tired of all this bullying the left does.
Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.
This is what's wrong with the modern Republican Party...
AceInTX (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:01PM EDT (link)This kind of behavior can only exist when it is unopposed…
Gays are actively attacking the Mormon, Catholic and Evangelical churches in ads, invading church services and shouting obscenities in front of congregants and parishioners, Mocking Holy Communion in catholic churches dressed as transvestite nuns, assaulting old ladies on sidewalks for carrying a cross and snatching Bibles out of elderly person’s hands and beating them with them…shades of Kristallnacht and the attacks on Jewish businesses in pre WWII Germany
Creating Blacklists and having people fired, ostracized, and blackballed for opposing them,
Shades of McCarthy and the Red Scare.
They are censoring speech through thug tactics and intimidation while using the courts to have any criticism of them as hate speech.
Shades of the Soviet Union and Communist China!
Yet the Republican Party sits back on this as they have with so many other issues and allows it to continue unchallenged and criticized in any way!
I don’t know who’s worse…those doing this or those in the Rewpublicrat Party that are letting it happen!
This sounds more like a reincarnation of HUAC is on the way rather than the SS
civil truth (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:29AM EDT (link)I waiting for full-blown Congressinal hearings to start next.
“Have you now or have you ever supported Proposition 8. How about your wife or childre? If so, we’re going to blacklist you and make sure you never hold a job again in your field (unless you repent and name names). And even then, you will be held in high suspicion for relapse”.
So not only are we headed for a New New Deal of the 30′s, we’re now headed for a New McCartheyism of the 50′s. Well since we’re facing Clinton III, I guess nostalgia is the coming rage.
Far more apt than the Nazi analogy…
The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis
At least HUAC had some merit

New McCartheyism
Diogenes314 (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:52AM EDT (link)Of course McCarthey wasn’t on HUAC. Which was investigating serious national security issues, no matter what PC historical revisionist would have you believe. The worst thing McCarthey ever did was giving anti-communism a bad name.
As far as the Third Reich reference, would you prefer the Jacobin French Republic? I see quite a few Robespierre wanabees in the Party of Pelosi, and their acolytes have the DeFarge thing down cold.
Ann Coulter has taught me well...
DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:58AM EDT (link)I can not wait to see the comments that I am about to get for invoking ACoulter.
Don't . . .
Steve W (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 1:09PM EDT (link)I happen to like the controversy that Ann brings to the discussion – while she may be a “s##t disturber” – she makes her points clearly – take what you want, and leave the rest.
I also agree that McCarthy was chasing “REAL” communists in government – they had infiltrated the FDR (and later) government in large numbers and at high levels – which is WHY his name can be used as the height of hubris now.
The best way for the left to “win” is to redefine the terminology of what is “good” and what is “bad.” The good book identifies what happens to those who do this. . . .
Those that don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it.
This coincides with a comment I made last month – we vilify the MSM for leaning so far to the left – but we on the right believe them, and use their terms and definitions on so many matters.
The ultimate determinant in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas-a trial of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideals to which we are dedicated.

To Kowalski (and it's McCarthy, not McCarthey)
civil truth (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:39AM EDT (link)It’s bad enough when private extremists hound people out of jobs for their political views, but at least you can argue that private individuals have a right to express their views. I still think that there’s a difference between expression and intimidation/bullying, but we’re talking private actors
However, when Congresspeople start demanding that people be fired for their views (or in this case for their wife’s behavior), then we’ve crossed the line into censorship (since we’re not talking government actors) and McCarthyism.
Even worse, especially since unlike McCarthy, these individually aren’t being accused of violating any law, it’s strictly an attempt to silent political speech (and punish association) you don’t agree with. Once the government is able to abrogate enumerated constitutional rights, where do it end.
And slippery slope, if this bullying succeeds here, where will it stop?

I wasn't thinking actors...
DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:42AM EDT (link)I was thinking about the officials in Government who wer spys like Alger Hiss
I mean equating HUAC to...
DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:37AM EDT (link)these people does HUAC a massive disservice
I alluded to that above, but yes HUAC had a justification for starting up
civil truth (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:46AM EDT (link)Unlike here, at least HUAC started out investigating possible criminal activities and a genuine threat to our country from card-carrying Communists in government positions.
Unfortunately, from the reports I’ve read, mission drift set in and the committee’s investigations went beyond criminal activity to investigating protected behavior, and its tactics degenerated into relying on informers and heasay and guilt-by-association. Television killed it.
Today’s Prop 8 witch-hunters know that and are likely to do their dirty work out of the public light except for a few high-profile examples to intimidate others and cut-off the money.
This will be a pattern we’re going to see from the left in the next few years – cut-off the money flow to the right.

Yes, Yes and Yes
DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, December 5th at 10:54AM EDT (link)I agree with you on all the points you made; however, I do think this new kind of behavior from the activists will not stop because like all animals positive reinforcement of their actions has been given.
If no one agrees with you punish them or make them fear that their opinion could have very negative consequences. These people have descended to conducting shakedowns to get their way. To me it is just another form of temper tantrums that they were unable to grow out of. Anyway these people infuriate me.
Make sure you don't confuse McCarthy's Committee with HUAC
